High-rolling travelers receive the royal treatment at one of Savannah's most luxurious inns.

The Scene
It's no shock that this elegant bed and breakfast inn is a top choice for Savannah-visiting celebrities. The four-story antebellum mansion, converted to a B&B in 1980, is beautifully decorated with antiques. It's located in Savannah's historic district, within walking distance to popular restaurants, shopping and tourist attractions. An inn with a checkered past, the Ballastone was once a well-known bordello and the scene of numerous police raids.
The Details
Your stay includes a full Southern breakfast, high tea, evening hors d'oeuvres and after-dinner port or brandy. You'll find a newspaper at your door in the morning and homemade biscotti by your bed at night. Concierge is available 24 hours to press your clothes and book restaurant reservations, tee times and spa appointments. The 16 rooms feature high-quality linens, Caswell-Massey toiletries, cable and a VCR (a video library is available to guests). Most rooms have fireplaces and some have whirlpools.
Disappointed

I guess for the price we were paying, we just expected a lot more. Very unimpressed with the food, especially since they advertised that they had a resident chef. Our room was very nice, but the bathroom looked like one from a typical motel/hotel. The B&Bs where we've stayed before had a wine/cheese or happy hour, but you didn't have to pay extra for the alcohol. Like I said, our expectations were probably too high since it is a AAA 4-diamond B&B. We'll try another B&B next time.
- Pros: Good Location, Room Decor
- Cons: Not a good value, Food was unimpressive
