Fun Experience
by MsJBoogie
This was a little different for me but I really enjoyed it. Feeding the aligators and eating with my hands. Great for family and friends. The waitress I had wasn't the best but the experience out weighs that. The bathrooms are not well kept, and smell extremely awful. i would recommend using the restroom prior to going. Other than that the experience it was you really pay for.
- Pros: Experience
- Cons: Restrooms
Don't bother

This used to be a funky little tiki bar on the salt marsh that served some very good seafood. The atmosphere alone was worth the trip. Unfortunately in the six years since my last visit things have changed. There is now a distinct "kiddie" theme, complete with an alligator pond where your little one can feed the undersized (and somewhat chilly) amphibians (or are they reptiles?). Of course the fact that 'gators are not indigenous this far north is beside the point.
I overcame my initial shock and found the original bar (now adjoined to a much larger facility) was pretty much as I remembered it and decided to forgive the owners for their desire to make money hand over fist and took a seat on the deck. Our waitress was was completely overwhelmed and it took forever to get our drink and appetizer order. I had ordered the half lb. boiled shrimp ($10) and shortly after the order finally arrived, I realized the half pound wasn't enough for my party so I decided the change our order to the full pound which was only $5 more. on the menu. Again, it took ages for our waitress to return an when she did, she refused to accomodate my request, insisting she would have to charge the full $10 fo another half pound. Not be be cheap, but I couldn't beleive management was that inflexible so I asked her to check with her manager. This time she returned prompty with a smile (the first hint of one I'd seen) to verify her position as correct. I simply refuse to do business with anyone with that low of regard for their customer. We were obviously just another faceless wallet amomg the gazillions of gator feeders that fuel their endless fortune. We promptly paid our tab and left. Needless to say, our dear smiling waitress received a zero on her performance review.
- Pros: It has a tiki bar.
- Cons: Complete disregard for their customer
a northerner converts to low country eater
by sponateous_chris
WOW... first impressions I thought it was a tourist trap but I was too hungry to turn around, especially with a carload of kids and family members. The place is big but didn't seem so when we sat down and with no wait. This is such a find if you like good and plentiful eating. Our party ordered a sample platter for 2, it easily fed 3; I also ordered the crab stew ... I would return just for that.... ; my father in law ordered the blue crab and he loved it[he got 6 crabs and they were big] My wife ordered the seafood Au grautin.. it was homemade and stuffer with crab, shrimp and cheese.... I stole more than a taste...the low country was more than enough for my 15 year old son... you get the picture all of this in a rustic setting along side a creek and a lagoon full of real live gators... kids liked that.... anyways we were all glad that we stayed
- Pros: pleanty of good food
- Cons: parking lot was unpaved
Caution: Tourist Trap
by texas45
My wife and I were on vacation but should have seen this tourist trap coming before I sat down; unfortunately I let hunger get in the way of my common sense. We had the big whatever platter that featured boiled seafood which I am often fond of living within driving distance of some wonderful South Louisiana seafood joints. The food was awful, I mean terrible. The best thing on the platter was the potatoes. I paid a high price for absolutely terrible, cold, mushy, not fresh, unseasoned boiled seafood. My wife had to leave the table early because her stomach just couldn't take any more. I was told this platter was good local seafood. Last I checked you can't get snow crab anywhere locally and if those crawfish were local then they were only suitable for bait. On the way out I looked around at the other plates on tables and decided that I was doomed before I sat down. If you find this seafood tasty then lord have mercy on your poor palate.
- Pros: Neat Atmosphere
- Cons: Bad Food
Great for families!

While visiting the Savannah area, we had dinner at The Crab Shack. It is a great place for kids because while you are waiting to be seated you can look at the rabbits and alligators which was quite amusing! We were seated at a table next to the water which had a beautiful view. The atmosphere was fun and I loved eating and putting our used plates, etc in the "hole" in the center of the table. I got the "steamer" which consisted of shrimp, corn, potatoes & sausage. Living on the coast of North Carolina, I've had this dish many times and I thought it was very good at The Crab Shack. The prices were reasonable and the service was great! Definitely ask to be seated outside.
- Pros: Atmosphere, location, variety of menu, fast service
- Cons: Wasn't thrilled about the cats walking around on the ledges next to the table that I was eating at. Guess that comes with the territory!
Worst Tourist Trap In The Savannah Area! Sub-Par Seafood!
by jaymaygm
This past summer while visiting the beautiful historic Savannah, we wanted a good local seafood joint. We usually always relied on William's Seafood. but they had a terrible fire. So we went to nearby, "Crab Trap". The parking lot was jammed, so we figured this is the place. We sat outside, big tables with a hole-in-the-middle, for seafood shell's. It reminded us of several New England spots. We ordered the Steamed Seafood Platter. It arrived cold, soggy, and didn't really taste all that fresh. The melted butter, was not really butter, but maybe just vegetable oil. Maybe the people dining there liked it, alot of real Bubba's, but not for us. We did find a little great hole-in the wall, futher out on Tybee, run by a group of terrific women. Just drive past this place, and look for the little seafood place at the Tybee Village, with the balcony upstairs. Seafood baskets, made of plastic, but oh so good and fresh!
- Pros: It's On Tybee Island!
- Cons: Loud Tourist Trap! Terrible Steamed Cold Seafood!
Neat Place

If you like your food boiled then this is the place for you. However, my husband is a fried seafood man so he was severely disappointed. In addition, we ate outdoors and so our food became cold very quickly. It was a neat place to eat and we had a good time however, I'm not certain we'd go back for the money.
- Pros: Large portions, Good parking
- Cons: Expensive, Cold Food, Crowded
Visit Once - You'll Return!

The laid-back, but fun & friendly atmosphere is just what the doctor ordered! The looks of the place may not impress you, but they will pleasantly surprise you with their great crab legs, low costs, and Southern hospitality! The piles of empty clam shells out back will give you a great idea that they specialize in their seafood menu, and that you're in for a meal you won't soon forget. The locals are so friendly & fun, that there isn't a visit to Savannah that we don't hit the Crab Shack at least once. Try it... you'll absolutely enjoy it!
- Pros: Easy-to-find location, fun atmosphere, short walk to beach
