This ONCE was the best BBQ place in Savannah. The food is OK (it was once GREAT!), but be prepared to wait an absurd amount of time for something as simple as a BBQ sandwich. Sweetleaf puts the SLOOW in Slovannah! Don't go Monday through Wednesday or they will be out of most everything. The best thing abou the place is the art!
Mouth-watering BBQ; incredibly slow service – It's a testament to how great the food is at Sweet Leaf that I've been there as many times as I have. I have never, no matter what time of day or how many people are eating, gotten out of there in less than an hour and a half.
But! The food is glorious, especially the pulled pork and the mac&cheese (which, incidentally, you may have to ask for, as it isn't on the menu).
I do wish there were some Carolina BBQ in these parts, but if we're talking sweet-TX-based sauce, this place is the jam.
Horrible service – Terrible service with the expectation for generous gratuities. Waited 15 minutes for order to be taken, then another 1.5 hours for food to arrive. Was told by the manager that this was 'normal'. Then they had the audacity to attempt to include a mandatory gratuity and argued with me when I asked to remove it. The food is good, but the service is horrendous and I would not recommend going there unless you have ample time to waste.
ribs and corn pudding to die for – corn pudding to die for, ribs are great, and the hamburgers are outstanding. staff is o.k., young and they do their best, they are not rude and if you smile and are kind they act the same way. great food,
BBQ with a twist and attiitude – Ive never had BBQ like this. Some of the best comfort food in the city, but dont rub the staff the wrong way, they are short tempered and arent quick to please. I havent been on the receiving end but an acquaintance was and it was pretty horrific.
Pulled Pork and Corn Pudding while you look at local artwork – It's a bit of a hole in the wall, but I tend to think that anywhere with good barbeque is probably a hole in the wall. Anyways, I had a pulled pork plate with corn pudding (which is amazing) and potatoe salad. There wasn't anything left on my plate when I was done. I was completely satisfied and it was wonderful. I experienced good service and the atmosphere was welcoming, too. There are skateboards for fans and pictures and murals by local artists on the walls. Seat yourself and enjoy!
