AVOID THIS RESTAURANT.
While we did attend on Labor Day weekend, which was understandably a busy time, there are some things that are still inexcusable, especially for a restaurant in a major tourist area, with lots of competition.
Unfortunately, we made One Eyed Lizzy's our first stop upon arriving to Savannah. Sometimes the wrong choice can start a vacation on a sour note, and that is exactly what happened.
The wait was about 20 minutes to get in (not too bad on such a busy night, but still a wait), but it took another minutes to finally place our order. We ordered appetizers, mainly because we had two people in our party that tend to get pretty sick if they wait too long to eat. After around 25-30 minutes, there was still no sign of our appetizers. I was about to go flag down another server when I finally saw the appetizers arriving (brought by someone else; our waiter was too busy helping others). However, we had no silverware!Our waiter was nowhere in sight now; I had to track another server to get silverware and a beverage refill (which nobody ever checked to see if we needed any, and our drinks were empty). About a minute after we got our appetizers, our entrees arrived, which was ridiculous...we didn't even need our appetizers at this point.
As far as the quality of the food goes:
1) Our spinach dip and Savannah corn/crab chowder were ordinary at best.
2) Two of us got crab cake sandwiches, which I was excited to try as they are supposedly a local delicasy. I SERIOUSLY doubt Savannah wants to be represented with this cafeteria slop. The crab cakes did not hold together at all...the buns were soaked and mushy from the crab cakes...which had the consistency of tuna salad overloaded with mayo. there was indeed way too much mayo/Miracle Whip (which I detest). Also, there were pieces of something hard in the cakes--I believe they were fish bones, although they could have been eggshells..either way, undesirable.
3) The other member of our party ordered a salad with Grilled Salmon because he thought it would be a safe, healthy option. The salmon had no taste and a grayish color...it appeared to have been cooked in the microwave.
Another issue: we had requested rice and vegetables as alternatives to the side of french fries that came with the crab sandwiches. The waiter never told us at the time that we would be charged extra for a (tiny) cup of vegetables...3.00 extra! The price wasn't the issue as much as we were never told this until we got the bill! Now, we did receive a discount from the manager because of the problems we incurred, but basically all that happened was that it zeroed out the extra charge for the veggies...not such a huge effort on their part to appease us.
At this point, we wanted to get out of the restaurant already (we had been there FAR too long already...about an hour and a half), but it took too long to get a bill and pay for it.
Finally (and importantly) the "safe option" my friend picked--the "grilled" salmon salad--got him VERY SICK...to the point that we had to leave River Street immediately after dinner. His stomach cramps were so bad that he wasn't sure if he was going to even hold anything back until he got to the hotel bathroom.
There are far too many other options for restaurants to pursue to have to deal with this. A "busy night" is no excuse. AVOID THIS RESTAURANT.
