Editorial Review for Bistro Savannah – by John Kress

The Scene
Situated near bustling City Market, this unpretentious little bistro oozes playful sophistication in an area that can sometimes feel overrun with beer-swilling students and tipsy tourists bent on shoring up Savannah's reputation as a great place to party. The dining room is dimly lit and smartly decorated; funky modern art jazzes up exposed gray brick walls and a huge bouquet of fresh flowers graces the tiny bar. Service is chummy, knowledgeable and efficient.

The Food
Local favorites like sautéed shrimp and tasso (cured pork) over stone-ground grits grace a modest menu that's heavy on seafood, but doesn't exclude other tempting offerings. Sweet peach-and-pear chutney nicely complements a generous filet of tangy barbequed black grouper. A robust roast duck--crispy on the outside, delectably moist inside--is served with fat Bing cherries and orange marmalade. For dessert, try a plate of sautéed berries with shortcake and impossibly rich vanilla bean ice cream.

Poor service, room temperature food (for what was supposed to be hot), and bland flavors. 'Nuf said.

Our waiter was smug and unresponsive. We ignored him and enjoyed the occasion. The restaurant is well lit and decorated with beautiful art work.;the blending of old and new was well done. The Led Zepplin music was edgy, but misplaced.(try the ECM record label next time) The salads were delicious and entrees were tasty and well presented.BUT,we all had late night and following day stomach problems. iT RUINED THE VISIT. It was too high a price to pay !!
