Savannah >Lady & Sons
this was the worst place i went to the food was too salty, the food servere used her bare hands to put the bread on the plate the bread was old, i cant believe she would allow here name on this. stay away
My Goodness. What a overblown ego these
folks have ,the food ,please I can cook better and don't even care too.18.00 for a buffet with some of the most non appealing food.My daughter was turned away at the door after making a reservation ,driving 6 hours with two children.Trying to find a parking spot that cost 10.00.
My advice is steer clear .There are wonderful places to go enjoy the city this is not one of them.
We had a wonderful/enjoyable meal. We were lucky enough to walk right in. Freddie our server was excellent!!!
Prefer not to eat at a..... ...restaurant where the General Manager refers to himself as "One of Paula's Other Sons" and boasts how he can get away with "anything" (and does) will NEVER be fired (and hasn't) continues to brag how he gets a new car every year from Paula on his birthday, then turns around and calls his employees "MONKEYS". Really?? Paula should shake some of her bling off, pull a few weave strands out so her brain can clear and talk real! Most of her vegetables come in huge institution cans that her staff "dresses up" and the food tastes like s%(t. The way I see it, this place does not even earn a star, period! Did I tell you how "nasty" the kitchen is? Big Tourist Trap. Enjoy Mrs. Wilkes (only thing Obama got right) or the Pink House, Elizabeth's on 37th. Get some "real quality food" for your money and do not waste it on "Paula". You will thank me : ) BTW, she is very rarely there, has a cut out you can take a photo with (if you are that lame) and does not cook a thing at her restaurant. It is all about money, sales, brand, name, etc...We've lost that loving feeling for her in Savannah, so please enjoy our real pride and joys in food as listed above! Cheers!
Try for yourself.
After reading so many negative reviews everywhere online, I was a little dishearted. However, my husband insisted that we should at least give it a try.
We were going to wait in line at 9 in the morning. But we didn't get up until 9:30. So by the time we got there, it was like 10:30 already. I thought we couldn't get a reservation, but we got one for dinner @ 7:30 with no problem. And the hostess was very nice, nothing like the other reviews had described.
So we got back there at 7:15 for our dinner reservation and my husband couldn't find a parking space on the street. Without even being asked, the hostess told us we could park right across the street where there was a sign saying "no parking at any time". She told us nobody would care after 5PM.
After seated, the server Tim greeted us and brought us drinks right away. Throughout our dinner, he was nice and attentive. Again, nothing like the other reviews had described.
For dinner, we both got the buffet. The fried chicken was good, but I agree that Mrs. Wilkes' was better. The shrimps were nicely flavored. I enjoyed them even though they weren't devined as I would like to. I think all the side dishes were really delicious, probably the best that I had ever had. I loved the creamed potatoes, the collard greens, and the yam.
At the end of the meal, I was literally stuffed. My only regret was that I didn't have a bigger stomach. And the server even let us take our desserts to go. Can this get any better??!! After we got our check, the server told us to keep the receipt so that we could get the "buy one entree and get the second one free at Uncle Bubba's" deal.
To sum up, I guess my advice is to enjoy this place at the off-season time of the year because you will fall in love with it!
Lady and Sons and Uncle Bubba's. I wouldn't waste my time at this business. Its over priced fried chicken. You can get better food at other establishments in Savannah for a better price. I have lived in Savannah for 18 years and have seen this establishment grow over the years and it has not been for the good. Also I heard Uncle Bubba was recently SHUT down for days over a health inspection. I have eaten there and the food is awful and expensive. Don't waste your time and money
10 HOUR DRIVE FOR NOTHING on my BIRTHDAY. I am a huge Food Network Fan and Love Paula Deen so naturally I couldn't wait to drive all day from Maryland to Savannah on my birthday. The Lady & Sons was my first stop even before checking in my hotel. WHAT a disappointment to learn that at 5 p.m. on a Tuesday I could not get in that evening at all not even at 10 p.m. for dinner. They had reached their capacity for the entire evening, I was told to come at 8 a.m. to put my name down for dinner, I don't want to waste my vacation in line at 8 a.m. I want to be somewhere having breakfast. Very mad what a shame she does not mention this on T.V. when she talks about her place and everyone I told I was coming there warned me not to go there, especially the locals and I kept wondering why. I see not. So I chose the olde Pink House next turned out to be an EXCELLENT replacement.
Southern or not, truly delicious!.
I had read mixed reviews about this place before I went there for the first time; and now I have been there at least thirty times! Don't trust the unreasonably harsh negative reviews. I don't know what people expect. Those who think it is overpriced must have grown up on McDonald's $1 meals! Seriously, you'd have to be superlatively cheap to think this place is expensive. And then, there were some who complained about the food being unhealthy! Really, what did they expect to find? It's like going to a vegetarian restaurant and complaining about not getting any meat!
The buffet is good; but it really is the menu that keeps taking me back to the restaurant. The crabcakes are the best I have ever had (I don't like crabcakes anywhere else anymore since I've tried theirs!), the chicken potpie is amazing but too big for anybody to eat it all, the tilapia sandwich (blackened tilapia filet with a sweet Georgia peach glazing... YUMMM!!!) and the meatloaf sandwich are awesome and the poet's lunch (I had a crab stew and the pimento cheese sandwich) is much more than adequate!
Some say it is not true authentic Southern food. Well, maybe it isn't; but it is absolutely delicious all the same!
And they only make you wait in the gift shop when it is raining of the weather is otherwise bad. When the weather is fine, you wait outside. So I don't think waiting in the gift shop is a ploy to get you to buy something. Let's not blame them for being considerate.
Mixed experience. Love food network, and think Paulas recipes never fall short. We were super excited to get to have dinner at THE Lady & Son's since it is hyped as being so good.. I had the Steak and Pie. Steak was good, pie was not. My husband had the buffet and he really liked all of his choices. I think overall it was a mediocre experience. But maybe I just orderd the wrong thing. Hint-- we did not have to make reservations since we ate so late (10 pm) but most normal dinner times expects to make reservations FAR in advance.
The Best Food In Savannah!. Our family makes reservations for every Thanksgiving. We make a resevation for 11:00 and are always seated before 11:00. The food is delicious, The Sweet Tea is excellent, and the Service is PERFECT! Our glasses are never empty and if we ask for anything we receive it immediately! The waiters are very kind!
